What is the Building Simulator

The Building Simulator is the part of the software used to define the way the building operates, and then to run an annual simulation from which we obtain results. Here, a user can define amongst other things:

  • which weather file is to be used

  • what heat gains will be inside the building and when

  • the materials the building is constructed from

  • under what situations should windows open, and by how much

An intuitive interactive 3D view is available in the Building Simulator to aid data input and validation, plus numerous tools designed to help the user navigate specific tasks or workflows

The Building Simulator file is referred to as a tbd, based on it’s file extension “.tbd”, and the terms will be used interchangeably in this guide.
